Purple and Blue is the third collaborative work between biologist Loren C. Buck and composer Alexander Liebermann. The piece centers on the desert Purple Martin (andorinha‑azul in Portuguese; Progne subis hesperia), and its formal structure is derived from sixteen months in the birds’ life cycle.
